What’s most important to us is that you are happy with your Flying Fingers experience. We guarantee our products to be of finest quality. If you are not completely satisfied with any purchase we want to know about it.

We must insist that returned items be truly unused, except in the case of damage or defect. Unfortunately, our sample yarn baskets are full, our model garments have all been knitted by the time you want to return your yarn, and we only donate new yarn to day cares and senior centers. By “unused” we mean that you haven’t knitted any of it, cut it or taken any, lost the label, gotten it dirty, unwound, tangled, or damaged in any way.

Make sure to include a card with your name, address, and phone number and the approximate date of purchase. We’re always anxious to hear how everything turned out and we love to see a photo of what you’ve done, too! Please send the package to:

You received the wrong items, or damaged or defective merchandise, or something else is wrong.

You don’t want something you’ve just purchased.
We offer a full refund for any reason for 30 days.
With the exception of a sale item, or a copyrighted item, like a book or pattern, you can return anything that’s completely unused within 30 days of your purchase for a full refund (exclusive of shipping costs).

Your project is done! And you have leftover yarn to return.
We have a two year return policy!
We recommend buying 10-20% more yarn than your estimated requirements. This insures that you won’t run out at the end of your project. Though we will always do our utmost to get you matching yarn to finish a project, there are many circumstances where we cannot. Even in the case of hand-painted yarns with no dye lot, we still recommend getting more than enough. That way, we’ll be able to pick out the best matching hanks all at once.

That’s what makes sense, so we try to make doing it that way easy. We guarantee to take back your unused yarn anytime in the first 2 years after your purchase. After that, we’ll have to exercise our discretion. Hopefully, that’s long enough to complete most projects (oh, honey, we all have ancient unfinished things in the closet, too). We can take buttons back, too, on the same terms. This policy does not apply to any other products, such as needles, notions, patterns, bags, etc. Of course, yarns bought on sale are excluded. A bargain is a bargain, after all.

So, when you’re done with your project, securely pack up any unused skeins that you want to return and send them back to us and we’ll give you a full refund for what you paid us for them.

The color isn’t right.
On hand-painted yarn we will provide an even exchange.
Hand-dyed yarns, by their very nature, are not uniform. Each skein is a unique work of art. However, if what we picked for you doesn’t work for your project, we’ll be happy to work with you to get something that does. Give us as many clues as possible! A sample of the yarn you’re trying to match is usually best. We may need that to work with the supplier.

Shipping in the Continental United States

For the 48 contiguous United States, we use UPS shipping. You can choose a flat rate shipping charge of $5.99, for which we will ship UPS standard ground (our rate varies by weight, package size, and destination). You can optionally choose one of the premium services (2-day, 3-day select) which may get your package to you sooner. The following map shows the maximum number of days for shipping with ground service from our shop in Tarrytown, NY .

See http://www.ups.com for further information about UPS. We typically ship items within one UPS business day of the order. In the event of a delay or out of stock we will notify you by e-mail or telephone.

Global Shipping

We regularly ship yarn all over the world, and most likely we can ship it where you want it to go. If your destination is not in the continental United States, then read on.

We offer a flat rate shipment option, considerably below cost which will speed your package to you in the most efficient and cost effective manner. (You can choose any other method you like for shipping your package and we will add the actual costs to your order—just call us to make arrangements.) The charge is based on the package destination and we charge the same fee regardless of the size of your order.

Zone 1 is all of North America, including US, Canada, Mexico, all the Carribean countries (except Cuba), all the Central American countries, all APO and FPO addresses, and all US territories. Zone 1 shipping is $5.99.

Zone 2 is all of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, Israel, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China. Zone 2 shipping is $12.99.

Zone 3 is everywhere else in the world except Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea. Zone 3 shipping is $15.99.

Zone 4 is Cuba, Vietnam, and North Korea. We're sorry, but we have only been successful with sending paper gift certificates to Zone 4 countries.

When shipping beyond our continental US borders, we've had the most success for the best value with the Post Office. We send via the United States Postal Service and the parcel is handed to your own customs agency (except for Alaska, Hawaii, PR, and other US Territories, of course). From there, after passing through customs, your own local postal service takes care of delivering your package to your specified destination. For most of the world, the post charges (included in our flat rate shipping fee) are quite reasonable and the transit time is on the order of a week or so.

So if you choose our flat rate shipping (recommended), we ship by US Postal Service to all non-US addresses, and to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, US Territories, and APO/FPO addresses. Except for flat materials like patterns and books, we choose the service based on the destination, weight of the package, and the value of the contents.

If the package is going to a US destination, we use US Priority Mail. For non-US destinations, if Global Priority Mail service is available to the destination and the package is less than 1.8 kg and under USD 400 in value, we use the Global Priority Mail parcel service. This usually takes 4 to 6 business days (a couple of days faster than airmail). We're able to use this service for most of our shipments. For all other packages we use Global Airmail Parcel Post—a fast, reliable, and insurable service available for large and small boxes to just about anywhere in the world.

We don't keep track of what duties or taxes, if any, you have to pay on your end--that varies country to country and is very difficult for us to know accurately. For this it is best to check with your own customs agency. A good place to start is at the US Postal Service' Individual Country Listings where they list the prohibitions, restrictions, observations, customs requirements and current conditions for each country.

Please understand that we must follow all the laws and mark accurately the contents and cost of the contents of every parcel according to the requirements of the US Postal Service. Customs duties, local taxes, and any additional local fees are not covered by the flat fee shipping charge and are the sole responsibility of the customer. Flying Fingers makes no warranty as to the ability to import the shipped goods, nor are we responsible for delays, damage, or loss while in the possession of customs agencies. We will, however, do our very best to help you if you ever have any snag. In our experience, problems are very rare.
